2012 – First Quarter

Hey we’re a quarter of the way into 2012 and the world hasn’t ended yet! In lieu of regular updates (unless you follow our twitter/facebook) here’s a big batch of what we’ve been up to lately…

We mentioned that we started using Society6 right? A lot of the work we do is for our own enjoyment, but through the storefront you too can own a piece of the Largetosti design legacy. Our cut of the profits is terrible but at least we don’t have to mess with stock keeping, packaging, postage and all that noise.

The Dazzle Camo series was the first side project to launch there, along with the STEALTH series and its PILOTS addendum. The adventures of IRON OF STEEL have also been revived, the most manly man ever born from a nuclear bomb colliding with an diamond astroid now sells his speedo designs as phone skins and laptop covers in our store.

Our Jeremy Lin tribute was featured on maybe the world’s greatest NBA blog Got ‘em Coach, and ripped off by the Chinese. We immediately ordered ourselves one of the pirate phone covers but it seems to be on the slow boat here, there will certainly be a review when we finally get it.

The annual Big Brother Awards by Bits of Freedom have been around again for which we provided an update to the site, the poster and design for the jury report. Big winners this year are Facebook, Edith Schippers (the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports) and the Dutch national police (KLPD). Fred Teeven, Dutch state secretary for Security and Justice, won the popular vote. You can still watch video of the entire event thanks to Engage.

We had a one-page feature in Dzone Magazine, you can check it out online here, buy the magazine hardcopy here, or purchase it for your iDevices in the app store.

Our new site launched! It’s totally unfinished, as is the tradition. We’ll be filling back in the old archive soon. It’s just one of those annoying jobs you never seem to get around to. This time we have made an effort to articulate what we actually do, but it’s probably no clearer than ever before. You’re welcome.

New site for Dokters van de Wereld launched as well, designed and developed in collaboration with Johnny Wonder. You can read a quick post about it here.

Finally another side project launched, check out TANGRAMMAR. Damn we really need to write this stuff up more frequently again huh. Thanks to you if you made it this far, now please enjoy our favorite video of the last 3 months, see you back here soon.

Dokters van de Wereld

We were recently commissioned by friendly neighborhood communication strategists Johnny Wonder to design and build a new website for Dokters van de Wereld, the Dutch division of Medicins du Monde.

The new site enables them to more effectively communicate their work to the public, share their message through various social media channels, and features a more effective integration with their online donations system.

Doctors of the World are an international aid organisation fighting worldwide for every human’s right to medical care regardless of race, religion or politics. We are down with that kind of thing.

Iteration #02. Holographic eyes!

Actually we just made the text size on the blog bigger. Things have been shuffled around a little as well, and we dropped the old mailing list. All that thing did anyway was send email notifications for posts which is more annoying than useful. Sorry 7 subscribers! Don’t worry though, you’ll all be automatically added to the new newsletter that we’ll start sending out soon.

The eyes above are a DCG-bichromate gelatine reflection hologram, whatever that means. Images lifted from page 56 of NOVUM Gebrauchsgrafik, issue 5/1982.

Site redesign. Iteration #01

The new theme has been activated, the first of many changes gone through. Just the top chunk of the home page for now. First public response? “WAH UGLY!!” That’s funny. Lucky for us this wasn’t meant to be pretty, it’s a placeholder that will evolve over the next few months.

We really only wanted to do 2 things, 1; communicate more clearly what we do, and 2; directly display channels to buy our stuff. Soon it will get more visual, other following & purchasing channels will be added, and there will be more pages on who we are & what we do.

First up though, the next iteration of the site will be updating the blog pages to larger text sizes to make the whole thing more legible, and scrapping our current mailing list to switch over to a better service and doing periodic newsletters instead of email post notifications. Stay tuned.

It’s a merchandise outlet!

If you’ve known us for a couple of years you know the Largetosti store has never been far off, always just behind the next site redesign. You also know that it mutated to a limited edition store, and then split off as a new label, and meanwhile still hasn’t been released. So now it’s OUTLET BONANZA TIME. Our dirty spreadshirt store offers you the finest in unlimited flexprint designs. Opening with the Largetosti logo on ANY COLOR, or the professional selections of Genius Club and COFFEE shirts made by Niko Lanzuisi of Studio Donbe himself. Shirt is crazy. You can also buy a mug, or an overpriced organic tote bag. Send requests for special limited edition colorways and we’ll see what we can do for you.
